The young Polish pianist Rafał Blechacz has concluded a recording session for Deutsche Grammophon.

His third CD for this label will feature both of Chopin’s Piano Concertos with the Concertgebouw Orchestra under the Polish conductor Jerzy Semkow.

The session lasted five days. After the third day, the musicians performed the entire programme at a public concert at the Concertgebouw. The music critic and broadcaster, Jacek Hawryluk described it as a great success.

Blechacz was given a standing ovation after the F minor Concerto in the first part of the concert. His performance of the E minor Concerto in the second part led to an applause bordering on euphoria.

“Blechacz is a true virtuoso, his interpretations have not a touch of routine but sparkle with freshness and optimism, features that are ideally suited to Chopin’s youthful compositions”, Hawryluk wrote in Gazeta Wyborcza.

The CD is due for release on 18 September.

His two previous CDs for Deutsche Grammophon featured Chopin’s Preludes and a selection of sonatas by the Viennese classics.

Rafał Blechacz is the winner of the Chopin International Piano Competition in Warsaw in 2005.
