Omaggio a Chopin (Homage to Chopin)

Rome’s Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia is going to officially open the Chopin Year celebrations in Italy on 30th January and 1st–2nd February, with a concert featuring Rafał Blechacz playing Fryderyk Chopin’s Piano Concerto in E minor No. 1. The event’s programme is also going to include compositions by Gustav Holst and Randall Meyers. The Orchestra and Choir of Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia is going to perform under the direction of Andrey Boreyko.

Before the concert, the exhibition titled “The Mazurka: of Poland or of the world?” is going to open at Auditorium Parco della Musica. Prepared by the Chopin Museum in Warsaw and designed by Migliore+Servetto, a Milan architect studio, the exhibition is going to display a manuscript of one of Chopin’s mazurkas owned by the Fryderyk Chopin Institute in Warsaw, along with first editions, facsimiles, display boards, and audio and video material. The exhibition will last until the end of February and will accompany key Chopin events held at Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia – Krystian Zimerman’s and Maurizio Pollini’s recitals and the conference “Le Sonate di Chopin”, to be chaired by Giovanni Bietti.
