Review written by Kai Luehrs-Kaiser, Kultur Radio, Germany, as of March 5,
giving five stars to Blechacz's CD Debussy Szymanowski.
(Excerpt, only partially)
For me, Rafał Blechacz, the Warsaw Chopin Competition winner in 2005, is the perhaps the most talented among the young pianists worldwide…..
.....His musical feature is above all the full exploitation of the material and his pianistic possibilities. A dynamic wide-ranging with delicious touch, while the sound never blurs. In Debussy as well as in "Polish impressionists" Karol Szymanowski, shimmering of soundscapes by Blechacz is never achieved by blurring (or pedal). It is dominated by a sensitive, but absolutely solid synthetic style of differentiation and the richness of detail. Awake in the smallest convolution, one sees this loftily musical approach unpretentious and poignant.
Szymanowski's rarely performed first Sonata in C minor, Op 8 reserves in this way - if all the atmospheric density - a folk song-like simplicity. Even Debussy's piano suite Pour le piano and L'Isle Joyeuse aim not to be pampered nor nebulized.
.....Rafał Blechacz is someone who provides the hope that something ole-fashioned like quality still can prevail even in classical music.
