A beautiful concert in Menton, France

On July 21, Rafał Blechacz played Beethoven's piano concerto No.2 @Parvis of the St Michael Church, Menton,

Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo
Conductor: Roberto Abbado

program brochure of Menton Festival

"Rafał's interpretation of Beethoven's No. 2 was accepted with a big and long applause. He played on Yamaha concert piano. For encores he played two mazurkas. It was an open-air concert in front of the church, a little breezy and a thunder storm was upcoming but held off. The conductor Roberto Abbado (a change from Jakub Hrůša) has Claudio Abbado as his uncle."

Basilica Minor, the title given by Pope John Paul II in 1999

Pleased to know that this concert was held and Rafal played Beethoven's no.2 concerto. Lucky that there was no storm.

    1. An audience member said that because of the open-air setting with wind not allowing the sound to flow evenly, the acoustics was different; he was sitting on the side and got more of timpani, basses than violins. Anyway I think the audience is so lucky to hear Rafał's piano in such a beautiful place.

  2. Yes, it's a pity that they insist on holding such events outside in this stormy European summer. It must me hard for the musicians to play in such conditions. Nevertheless, I envy those who were there, as I am still waiting for the experience of Rafał's Beethoven live.

    Take care,

    1. It was reportedly hot and it could be hard for musicians (゚・゚*) but I envy the tradition of open-air setting for summer festivals in some places in Europe and North America; in my country it becomes too hot and humid in the summer for concerts of classical music. But I know the weather is extraordinary in Europe this summer.
The audience was lucky and I hope that Rafał enjoyed everything.
