Original review

Bach danced like clockwork

"(.....) At the concert in the sold-out Metternich Saal of Johannisberg, Blechacz could show how he has matured musically in the past few years.

(…..) Experience was already in Bach's Partita No. 3 in A minor BWV 827. Blechacz played the Baroque dance movements like clockwork, carefully decorated, but in his touch, refreshingly free and varied. Even the quite awesome Scherzo had a relaxed, but never carelessly taken airiness, the final Gigue sounded fast and yet wonderfully light.

In Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Sonata in D major op. 10 No. 3, performance of the young Pole seems to further loosen up: the crystalline fluid runs in the first movement, the strikingly clear, but not fiery funeral music in the second movement convinces fully, so is the minuet, capriole and forward phrased. Original Blechacz took formal transitions, sometimes playful, sometimes organic , sometimes amusingly bumpy (.....)"

Excellent recital in Essen - Rafał Blechacz replaces Evgeny Kissin...+thanks!

Mr. Blechacz replaced other pianists in a few occasions.  Examples popping up in my mind are;

replacing
Lang Lang for Verbier Festival in 2006,

Nelson Freire for Schwetzingen Festival in May 2010,

Maria João Pires to play Chopin's Concerto No.2  with the London Symphony Orchestra under Jaap van Zwedenat in October 2011,

and again in place of Pires, to play Beethoven's Concerto No.3 with Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie under Trevor Pinnock at Amsterdam Concertogebouw in May 2012.

A personal memory;
The photo used in the German press reports above-mentioned is the one that I borrowed from an article of his performance for Klavier-Festival Ruhr in 2010, to be used for the cover page of this website three years ago when I worked with a designer to revamp the site.  Miki, a very able, talented designer, prepared the wonderful cover page in a few hours after I sent her this photo.

This is what I wrote three years ago in the blog to show my appreciation.

"(.....)  I love the cover page; my image is that Rafał Blechacz's interpretation is spreading out to the universe to be heard by many audiences of present and future generations (.....)

It reminded me of the fact that I owe to many people a lot for keeping on this website.  For this I would like to thank all of them who help me by providing news, supports, etc...
